Black. And you can no longer get a Tesla in metallic black, or bright metallic silver (unless you want to special order and pay extra - $5k, maybe?). You can get red or pearl white ( $2000 ), or blue or dark silver-gray ( $1500 ). Elon: “ Moving 2 of 7 Tesla colors off menu on Wednesday to simplify manufacturing. Obsidian Black & Metallic Silver will still be available as special request, but at higher price. ”
Porsche - notorious for their pricey options - has 4 no cost colors on the 911 (white, black, red, yellow), and 5 metallic (white, black, blue, gray, silver) for $720 . Plus 4 other special colors for more $ and PTS for even more, of course.
BMW offers white and black at no cost, and 8 metallic colors (black, red, silver, white, dark gray, light gray, blue, orange) for $550.

And the VW Golf R can be had in about 50 great colors for just $2,500 extra.
Tesla and Porsche suddenly seem like bargains.

And yet nobody complained when Henry Ford only offered black for the Model T...

In the current market, Ford may have to do this again in order to salvage profitability.

I want to know what’s going to happen to customers that ordered cars in these colors but haven’t yet had them delivered - don’t think Tesla has said anything yet about those in purgatory.

They’ll get them. Sounds like starting tomorrow you won’t be able to order those colors.

Why not then go with a seasonal colour?
White for summer. Grey for Autumn/Fall. Black for Winter. Beige for Spring.

Love that they’re doing that with the R. Wish more automakers would follow suit. 5 no-cost options available, too.

Damn, almost makes sense to just get the no cost option and have a shop paint it whatever the hell color you want.

Yep, the base colors for the R/R32 have always been pretty good if you could find one. My dad ended up with silver (2004) because it was sitting on the lot and saved him a ton of cash. He was like “I’m inside the car most of the time , so the interior matters a lot more.”
Fair point.

Seems like a similar or b etter than factory paint job is at least a $5-10k (everything comes out/off for a true quality job).

I hope that’s the case - I ordered one in obsidian black just last week so I’ll see what happens.

I ordered the long-range version with autopilot and AWD (I live in CO so RWD was a nope)*. I’m excited as I’ve had the same car for 15 years now so it’s time for a change.
*I hope this was what you were asking about as far as specs go - I’m not terribly car- savvy but I heard the news about the colors this morning and popped on Oppo to see if you guys were talking about it since I was a little worried.

Nice. Hope you don’t have to wait too much longer (15 years is enough!) - what is your current car, and what’s your commute like?

Thanks! Crossing my fingers that it gets here before the end of the year so I can get the full federal tax benefit but we’ll see - the company obviously doesn’t have a good track record in that regard so I’m preparing to wait. My state does a tax credit, so that’s nice.
I currently drive an ‘03 X5 that I love but the constant repairs are starting to wear on me. My commute is very varied (some days I drive a ton, others not at all) so I’m mulling over letting my husband drive it during the week as he has a more traditional commute (30 miles round trip , lots of traffic in the mornings). I guess I’ll see how selfish I feel when it actually gets here! :)

Good luck getting under the wire to get the full $7500. How much do you get from CO?
Haha - I’m guessing you won’t want to give it up, but low-speed Autopilot would be pretty great when dealing with terrible stop & go traffic (thankfully I don’t have to deal with that much where I live).

Colorado’s pretty generous - there’s a $5000 EV rebate.

I could seriously envision an “any color you like, as long as its silver” policy coming to an automaker someday.
